S.O.P.H.I.E

Over the years, many random strangers have judged me by what I was wearing. If I wore finger-less gloves, all black or something that was not in the 'fashion', they would look at me with disgust, as if I was insane or made accusations about my personality.

The Sophie Lancaster Foundation is working to try and stop that.
In 2007, Sophie Lancaster and her boyfriend Robert Maltby were the victims of a brutal, vicious and senseless attack. They were set upon by a group of thugs, who beat, kicked and stomped them. They then left both Sophie and Robert where they fell and went on to brag about it to their friends and post statuses about it on Facebook.
Both Sophie and Robert were put into coma's by the attack.
Sophie died 13 days later.

Robert survived the attack, mainly because Sophie had protected his head by cradling it as they were attacked.
The reasons for the attack?
Sophie and Robert were goths.

They were savagely attacked and beaten simply because they decided that they wanted to be different from everyone else and wear what they wanted.
5 boys were arrested for the attack. 2 received life sentenced for murder and the other 3 received shorter sentences for Grievous bodily harm.

S.O.P.H.I.E (Stamp Out Prejudice Hatred and Intolerance Everywhere) was set up by Sophie's family, who wished to spread awareness of sub cultures and make any attacks on someone from a subculture listed as a 'Hate crime'.

I am writing this to also spread awareness and show the amazing work The Sophie Lancaster Foundation has done. I have followed the charity for a few years and have purchased a S.O.P.H.I.E wristband. I rarely take it off.
